Charging stations for different applications

Charging-Station

The results of the first electro-mobility pilot projects are in. And the main insight is that the majority of drivers charge their vehicles in their own garage or at work. Public charge points on parking lots or in multi-storey car parks only rank number three. In response to these findings, E.ON is offering charge points for these different areas. E.ON is not only delivering electricity, but is also providing its customers with the full range of services: From analyzing requirements and offering advice on the installation of the charge point, right down to servicing the station. In addition to standard products, the group’s experts are also developing tailored solutions for fleet managers or multi-storey car park operators. One of the considerations is to include the costs for car park battery charging in the parking fee.

The Wallbox

E.ON developed the “Wallbox” charge point for use in residential garages. Mounted on the wall, it enables vehicles to be charged safely and conveniently, without requiring extension leads. A meter inside the charging box records information about the duration and power required. In future, smart meters will allow for the application of new rates, which will encourage charging green power when supply is high. E.ON will be offering the first variable rates by the end of 2010.

The latest generation charging station is the standard model for public use. Customers can use a magnetic card for identification purposes and the charging process is then billed. In future, the technology will enable charge points to be integrated into a larger network of charging stations. E.ON is continuing to advance the charge station technology even while it is promoting the sale of the marketable product. Tests are being conducted on the first cordless inductive charging station in collaboration with TÜV Süd. As part of the electro-mobility fleet trials with Volkswagen, E.ON is also developing DC charging stations, which could cut the time required for charging considerably.
